These two new moveable wheels, which are for parents/carers of five to twelve year olds and for parents/carers of teenagers (12 to 19 years), follow on from the production of our birth to five parenting wheel and complete the 'family' of wheels for parents and carers of children through to their adult years.

Written by practitioners at Harrow Council, these wheels are split into eight sections and each wheel carries information on both sides for each age year. You simply twist the wheel round to get to the section you currently need. On one side of the wheel there are things that the child or teenager might/should be able to do and also a list of things that the family can do to help the child/teenager, for each age group.

The theme for the five to twelve wheel is achievement and enjoyment and the reverse side of that wheel gives parents information about how to help the child at each stage of their development from five through to twelve years old. Both measure approx 230mm in diameter, so they are easy to carry around

The teenage wheel focuses on positive contributions and the achievement of economic well-being and the reverse side of this wheel gives parents/carers information about how they might help teenagers work towards these achievements as they move towards adulthood.

Like the birth to five wheel, this simple to use one piece tool comes laminated for a longer lifespan and all of the information contained within it was written by childcare practitioners to ensure that it will meet the needs of both parents and carers.

Organisations/authorities can buy the wheels in bulk or they can be purchased individually. There are significant savings for bulk purchases and these can be 'customised' with your logo and other details (see blue column below). These 'customised' wheels would 'brand' the publication for use in your own community (for instance you may wish to have copies in each of your settings, in children's centres or to give to your registered childminders). This 'customised' option offers authorities the chance to save on the costs associated with the development and production of a new item like this, because all of the set up work has been done in terms of copywriting and editing, design, artwork, proofing and even the cutter guides to produce the wheel and rivet it together.

For organisations/authorities wishing to commission larger bulk 'customised' copies, discounts apply and your wheels can cost less than the retail price of £2.99. Your wheels will be 'customised' by tailoring the back of the wheels with your own logo, contact details and colour scheme as per the samples shown here for Lancashire and Rutland Councils. Please note: We will always try to meet your needs in every way we can, but 'customised wheels' can take at least four working weeks to produce following the approval of your artwork. This is due to the complex manufacturing process, part of which is done manually to construct the wheels. In busy periods (such as Feb - April during the government financial year end) and for large quantities, production can take longer. Please therefore build in plenty of time in your schedule of needs to ensure we can meet your timescales. Sometimes we can get things done a bit quicker and we will always try, but the product is of a complex construction.

Hanging your wheels - Our Development Wheels come with two rivets in them to hold them together and ensure they work properly. One rivet is in the centre of the wheels and the other is near the top of the 'outer' of the wheel. Many customers are now 'hanging' wheels within the reception area of their centres or settings and you can order your kit to do this with your order. Each kit comes with a self-adhesive plastic 'hook' and a flexible wire which can stretch up to 3.5 metres long. Either order online when you buy your wheels or add these to your order form when you buy. Kits are only £1 each (inc delivery) + vat.
