This
full colour A5 sized booklet was developed by practitioners and early years advisors
at Harrow Council. Although not yet available for individual sale,
authorities and organisations can benefit from the work already done to get
their own 'customised' copies in languages applicable to the needs of their
local communities. The
front and back of the booklet can be designed to match other publications you
might have in place and branded with your own logo, contact details and colour
scheme.
Children’s first experiences
prepare them for life and help to shape the people they become. Children
learn first from those close to them. Their parents and carers are at the
centre of their world. At this stage, children’s families can make the
greatest difference. Children learn through their senses - touch, taste,
smell, sight, and hearing - from the moment of birth, and perhaps even
before. Children learn everywhere, all the time.
This booklet covers from
birth to five years and aims to show the beginning of the learning journey for
your child. You will see how your child learns from you as a parent/carer and as
he or she moves into an early years setting, either with a registered
childminder, in a pre-school, nursery, Montessori setting or a reception class
in school.
The centre spread of the
booklet concentrates on what the Early Years Foundation Stage is and its four
key area - the unique child, positive relationships, enabling environments and
learning & development. It also set out some of the frequently asked
questions posed by parents and carers.
To date the booklet has been
produced in seven languages. As well as English, these are: Arabic, Pashto,
Polish, Romanian, Somali and Tamil. This guide can be produced in any of these
languages for you and we can also get it translated into other languages that
might be suitable for your local community needs.
